Presentations and In-Service Trainings

I co-facilitate an on-going multi-disciplinary Asperger Syndrome clinical study group with a licensed clinical social worker colleague.  We are developing new services and best counseling practices while working with Asperger Syndrome adolescents, adults and their families.  To the best of our knowledge, this group, started in January 2001, is the only group of its kind, anywhere, that meets on a regular, scheduled basis to combine the talents of professionals from many counseling and consulting disciplines with an exclusive focus on Asperger Syndrome.  There is no charge for counseling professionals and advanced counseling students to attend the group.

I conduct Asperger Syndrome in-service trainings for disabled students counselors in the Portland metropolitan community colleges and four-year colleges and universities.  Presentations to other audiences include trainings in person-centered planning techniques for youth and adults with developmental disabilities, development and maintenance of self-directed support groups, facilitation of group work with committed adult couples in AS partnerships, and diagnostic and counseling issues for individuals with high functioning autism and Asperger Syndrome.  I have been a regular presenter at the Oregon Health Science University sponsored "Celebrate Wellness," conducting workshops on self-directed case management, discovery and use of natural and community supports to further independent living, and finding the best personal counselors and advisors for adults with disabilities.
